The New York Philharmonic is teaming with medici.tv to broadcast a free, live webcast on May 14. Part of the orchestra’s Europe/Spring 2013 tour, the sold-out concert, conducted by music director Alan Gilbert, is presented as part of the Dresden Music Festival and takes place in the city’s Volkswagen Transparent Factory.

On the programme are 20th and 21st century works, including Magnus Lindberg’s Kraft (1883-5), featuring the composer himself at the piano. First performed by the Philharmonic in 2010, the work requires the orchestra to use repurposed, locally-sourced metal - in this case, Phaeton car parts provided by Volkswagen. Also performed are Prospero’s Rooms by Philharmonic composer-in-residence Christopher Rouse and Bernstein’s Serenade (after Plato’s 'Symposium') featuring violinist Joshua Bell.

The webcast takes place at 7pm BST (2pm EDT) on May 14 and will be available to audiences worldwide for the following 90 days. It marks the Philharmonic’s first European concert to appear on medici.tv, and follows the successful webcast of Philharmonic 360, a co-production with the Park Avenue Armory in July 2012, seen by more than 65,000 unique viewers to date.
